If you prefer to have your cup of coffee midbrew – no problem! Simply remove the carafe from the machine and the brew cycle will be paused. Speaking of the carafe, its 54-ounce glass finish has a convenient water-level indicator and a non slip ergonomic handle for easy pouring.
As if this unit wasn’t simple enough, it features a filter basket release button which makes removing, filling and cleaning the filter a painless experience.
If you like your coffee hot but around the optimum temperature range then you will love the KF590. This coffee machine is one of only a few on the market today that will consistently brew your coffee at around 180°F. You can also rest assured that once is the coffee is brewed hot, it stays hot and this is thanks to the carafe warmer mentioned earlier which will keep hot coffee on standby for hours should you so desire.
Another pleasing addition to this unit is the easily programmable touch-pad interface. It will be very intuitive to most who use it but for those who don’t know what they are doing or forget, there are instructions pasted conveniently to the inside of the lid.
The biggest qualm about the Braun KF590 is that the coffee brewing process is too fast. This results in the water not being in contact with the coffee long enough to get a really nice, strong tasting cup of coffee. This shortcoming can be bypassed somewhat by using a paper coffee filter in addition to the gold-plated filter that comes standard.
In addition to this, the coffee machine is billed as a 10-cup unit but you may be disgruntled to discover that, at 44.4 ounces capacity, they are going to be very very small cups coffee at 4.4 ounces each. Of course this doesn’t really matter if you never plan on drinking that much coffee in a single go but it is something to keep in mind if you are entertaining.
I would still whole heartedly recommend the Braun KF590 Impressions Digital 10-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker as an excellent machine that has a few minor flaws and is great value for money. After all, you would be hard pressed to find any physical product in any market that was 100% flawless.
The unit comes with a permanent gold-tone filter and a Brita water filter, which prevents calcification, significantly reduces chlorine, and improves coffee flavor. The coffeemaker measures 14-1/8 by 7-1/2 by 13-2/7 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
One more word of advice regarding the use of Brita water filters with the Braun (portion of actual customer review):
Features: THE WATER FILTER-It’s almost unbelievable that the instructions don’t include the replacement model number for the “Braun Brita” water filter. They’re not hesitant to tell you that it “improves coffee flavor by significantly reducing chlorine and also prevents calcification … Provided that the cartridge is replaced regularly every two months, it not only brews better tasting coffee but can also extend the life of your coffeemaker by preventing [this gets redundant] calcification buildup. Braun water filer cartridges are available at your local retailer or Braun service centers.”
WHAT THEY DON’T TELL YOU… Use the following to replace the “Braun Brita” water filter: The KWF2…. As of this date, this costs $9.99 for a two-pack. At one filter every two months , annual replacement (assuming no shipping) will cost you about $60, or about 75% of the current Amazon.com sale price.
